Splits ("Splits", "we", "us") is an app that lets friends compete on sleep and recovery using data from the wearables they already own. This policy explains what we collect, who can see it, and the choices you have. By creating an account, you agree to this policy.
The short version: your sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, active calories, school and location are visible to the members of the groups you join. Groups are invite-only. We never sell your data, and we never use your health data for advertising.
What we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and profile details you choose to add, including your school and location.
- Health and fitness data: with your permission, we read sleep, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, and active calories from your connected wearable.
- Group activity: the groups you create or join, and your daily scores and rankings.
- Basic technical data: information needed to run the app reliably, such as device type, app version and crash logs.
Where your health data comes from
- Apple Watch: read from Apple Health (HealthKit) on your iPhone, only for the data types you approve.
- WHOOP: read from Apple Health if you sync your WHOOP there, or through WHOOP's API after you sign in to WHOOP and grant Splits permission, once that connection is available.
- Oura: retrieved through Oura's API after you sign in to Oura and grant Splits permission.
You can revoke access at any time in Apple Health settings, your WHOOP account, or your Oura account. Once access is revoked, we stop receiving new data from that source.
Who can see your data
Splits is a social app, and sharing with your groups is how it works. When you sign up, you agree that the following is visible to the members of every group you join:
- Your sleep data
- Your HRV
- Your resting heart rate
- Your active calories
- Your school
- Your location
Groups are invite-only. People who aren't in a group with you can't see this information. Before you join a group, think about who's in it; anyone in the group can see what's listed above.
How we use your data
- To calculate your daily scores against your own personal baseline.
- To build the leaderboards for your groups.
- To run, secure, troubleshoot and improve the app.
- To contact you about your account, the beta, or changes to these policies.
What we never do
- We never sell your data, health or otherwise.
- We never use your health data for advertising or marketing, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers (for example, cloud hosting and crash reporting) to run Splits. They process data only on our behalf and only to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. To delete your account and data, email support@joinsplits.app from the email address on your account. We'll confirm and delete your data from our systems, except for anything we're legally required to keep.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep your information safe.
Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use Splits. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email.
